Based on the needs of individuals for business organizations or for personal use there are different kind of operating systems designed. Mac OS X stores digital data on its hard drive in the form of files. The type and format of file depends upon the type of application that you are using to create a file. Mac OS X uses HFS (Hierarchical File System), HFS+, HFSX file formats for managing and manipulating data on the hard drive.

Mac hard drive can be divided into several partitions called volumes. Each volume is formatted using a file system such as HFS, HFS+, HFSX, etc for storing and organizing data. Partitions are done to separate the operating system files from personal files and to utilize the disk space efficiently and to boost up system performance. Different operating systems can be installed in different volumes. Even after using the safest operating system, Mac OS is still prone to data loss.Data loss is a common problem faced by almost all computer users. The loss can be due to unintentionally deleting volume, files, folders, volume header corruption, file system corruption, etc. Then to undelete Mac folder you need data recovery software.

There are some prominent reasons that cause data loss such as,

  • Accidental deletion of volume: While deleting the unwanted volume from Mac if you unknowingly select the wrong volume then this causes a severe data loss.
  • Volume header corruption : If the volume header that stores the information of volume itself as volume size, type of file system used, starting sector address, time of creation, etc. If the volume header gets damaged or corrupted, then the entire volume becomes inaccessible and there is huge data loss.
  • File system corruption: If the file system that is being used by volume for storing and organizing data gets corrupted or damaged by getting infected from some harmful virus then also the whole volume is inaccessible and result in major data loss.
