Requirements: Mac OS X 10.5.x and above (including Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks)

Mac OS X is one of the most advanced operating systems introduced by Apple. It is enriched with several useful features and designed using UNIX. It uses HFS, HFS+ file systems in order to arrange files or data on its hard drives. The Mac operating system has evolved with a number of different versions from a decade some of them are Panther, Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard etc. Even though Mac OS system provides different safety steps to protect private data, still data loss instances are taking place in the Mac system. To undelete files from crashed hard drive on Macintosh computer you can use Mac undelete software to retrieve lost files from your system.

Some common causes for deletion of files from Mac Operating System are as follows:

  • Improper method used during backup: Taking back up over a network or connecting an external hard drive using the AirPort Extreme which is not compatible with Time Machine results in data loss.
  • Data loss due to re-formatting a partition: Sometimes you may feel its necessary to change from one file system to other file system on Mac or HFS+ to HFSX file system on Mac. Errors during the file systems conversion can result in corruption of the partition.
  • Data loss due to re-partitioning the hard drive: When the size of an existing partition needs to be changed or a new partition needs to be created, re- partitioning can be done. Improper re-partitioning process might corrupt the existing partitions and results in loss of data.

There are some precautions that user must take before proceeding with retrieving the deleted files and some steps which you need to follow are discussed here. Among the first precaution that should be taken would be to don't use the affected device after data has been deleted or lost. For example, if files are already deleted or are already lost from the Mac hard disk, this is a best practice to stop using the hard disk immediately form saving any new data. This way you are preventing the potential of the deleted data getting overwritten. Secondly, it is advised that you download good file recovery software at the earliest opportunity to ensure that recovery can be done without any delay. This can be done with a bit of research and by reading about various recovery tools in forums and technology websites.
